2011 PacSun USA Junior Team Selection

First and second place in each of the 3 ISA divisions of the Surfing America USA Championships presented will earn a position on the 2011 PacSun USA Surf Team.

The remaining 3 surfers, which make up the 5 in each division, will be chosen by the PacSun USA Team Selection Committee, which is comprised of representatives from Surfing America, the USA Surf Team coaching staff and all of the invested brands. The Selection Committee will choose these three surfers from a pool of eligible surfers. Factors that the PacSun USA Team Selection Committee will consider are results over the Surfing America Prime Series, ASP Junior events, ASP WQS events, and any other relevant results. These open slots will be narrowed down on Monday morning and then awarded according to the day’s results so that the complete team can be announced during Monday evening’s 2011 PacSun USA Surf Team announcement and Dick Baker Memorial Award presentation.

In 2010 it is mandatory to participate in the USA Championships to be considered for the team.

There are some variables, however, that may effect how this translates into the actual team composition.

For instance should a surfer age-out of their respective division by the time of the next ISA World Junior Surfing Championships event, the next eligible surfer in that division would bump up a position (i.e. if the Under 16 second place winner will be too old to compete in the Under 16 Division come January 2010, the third place winner will take the spot). The original place-holder then becomes an eligible surfer in the pool for an Under 18 wildcard spot.

Additionally, if a Hawaiian surfer earns a spot on the team he/she will have the option to elect to surf for the Hawaiian team or the PacSun USA Surf Team. This selection will be permanent. Should a Hawaiian surfer win and elect to surf for Hawaii, then the next eligible surfer in that division will bump up into the available slot.

The PacSun USA Surf Team will participate in a series of Training Camps between July 2010 and January 2010.   These Training Camps will determine which 4 team members, in each division, will travel to the 2011 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships.

Development Squad

The PacSun USA Surf Team will also include 2 Junior Men and 2 Junior Women in a Development Squad who will be invited to all Team Training events and will receive training from the coaching staff. This is designed to assist the development of up and coming surfers, to help them advance their skills and prepare them for the future. These surfers will not be traveling to the Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships with the Team, but are considered as excellent prospects for future teams.
